VOCATIONAL TRAINING /RETRAINING FOR SHIP’S COOK

The program for secondary school training or retraining for cooks aims to qualify students for:
- preparing all kinds of cold and hot dishes and desserts
- cooking:
– order raw materials, groceries and semi-finished products
– take delivery of ordered goods, store them and preserve
– organize the work of the kitchen
– participate in all stages of the technological process of cooking
- usage of standards in meals, the implementation of a healthy, dietary and macrobiotic diet
- development of national Croatian cuisine as well as cuisine of other countries
- handling kitchen appliances, tools and utensils for various purposes
Practical classes are conducted in hotels and restaurants under the mentorship of top chefs and at the yacht Paloma Rea owned by the Center.
After graduation, students are given the opportunity for further professional development and further education in the form of acquiring knowledge of foreign languages (English, Italian, German) and obtaining certificates to work onboard.
Upon completion of the entire training, the trainee will meet the criteria of the provisions cited in the Regulations on the titles and certificates of seafarers’ qualifications and obtain a certificate for a Cook (HR III / 30).
In cooperation with the Maritime Employment Agency, we offer the possibility of employment on board passenger ships upon completion of our entire education program.
Requirements for enrollment in the secondary school training program:
- completed primary school and over 15 years of age
- medical certificate of fitness to do the job of cook
- sanitary health check for the hospitality industry.
Conditions for enrollment in the retraining program:
- at least 17 years of age,
- finished secondary school
- medical certificate of fitness to do the job of cook
- sanitary health check for the hospitality industry.
For students who enroll in the retraining program, the previously obtained secondary school certificate and curricula they have completed will be reviewed in order to determine:
- distinction and supplements to the general learning content that the student should take,
- distinction and supplements to the professional learning content that the student should take,
- practical lessons that the trainee should take.
Before the start of the program, each student receives a Decision on distinction exams, from which it is evident which subjects and learning contents are recognized and which subjects and learning contents are included in the program of training or retraining.
